Ezras Nashim opened its doors in 2014 in response to significant demand from Chassidic women in Borough Park, New York.
The women felt awkward being treated in a vulnerable situation by well-intentioned male EMTs from the community — easily neighbors they’d see on the block the next day. This caused lingering shame, trauma — and a hesitancy to call for help the next time they found themselves in an emergency.
And therefore Ezras Nashim took the pioneering move to establish an all-female EMT corps who would meet the emotional and physical needs of Orthodox Jewish women in an emergency.
We are bridging the gap in emergency medical care for the Orthodox Jewish community, with an EMT corps for women by women, so that women can focus on their health without worrying about their modesty or dignity.
We aim to branch out and expand our network of female EMTs to Orthodox Jewish communities worldwide, so when our fellow sisters choose to be treated by a female, there should be a volunteer nearby ready to use their EMT skills — with no concern of their modesty or dignity being compromised.
